दिल्ली के जंतर-मंतर पर 21 अगस्त को ‘आरक्षण हटाओ आंदोलन’ के तहत जाति आधारित आरक्षण के खिलाफ बड़ा प्रदर्शन हुआ... प्रदर्शनकारियों ने मांग की कि आरक्षण का आधार जाति नहीं बल्कि आर्थिक स्थिति हो। आंदोलन में कोटे के भीतर कोटा... EWS वर्ग को ज्यादा सुविधाएं... IIT-IIM जैसे संस्थानों में न्यूनतम अंक तय करने... और आरक्षण से अब तक हुए लाभ पर सरकार से श्वेत पत्र जारी करने जैसी मांगें उठीं। प्रदर्शनकारियों ने 2026 के UGC समानता नियमों और SC/ST एक्ट को लेकर भी आपत्ति जताई। दिल्ली पुलिस के मुताबिक जंतर-मंतर पर प्रदर्शन की अनुमति नहीं थी... बाद में पुलिस और RAF ने प्रदर्शनकारियों को हटाया और कई लोगों को हिरासत में लिया।
A major protest against caste-based reservation was held in Delhi on August 21 under the banner of the ‘Reservation Hatao Andolan’. Protesters demanded that economic status, rather than caste, should be the primary basis for reservation and government support. Their demands also included sub-categorisation within reserved quotas, greater benefits for the EWS category, minimum qualifying marks for admissions to institutions such as IITs and IIMs, and a government white paper assessing the impact of reservation over the decades. Protesters also raised concerns over the 2026 UGC equality rules and the SC/ST Act. Delhi Police said permission had not been granted for a protest at Jantar Mantar.
